Clock out at 40 hours for the week
Choose 40 hours this week and enter the hours you worked on the earlier days of your workweek. The calculator takes them away from 40:00 and adds what is left to today's clock-in, plus your unpaid break. If 4 hours or less are left, it assumes you reach 40:00 before your break.
If this week is on our time card in this browser, Use this week's card fills in the hours. It reads the card saved on this device, and nothing is sent to us.
It's Friday. You worked 32:45 from Monday to Thursday. Today you clocked in at 8:07 AM and take a 30-minute lunch.
- Left to reach 40:00
- 40:00 − 32:45 = 7:15
- Plus lunch
- 7:15 + 0:30 = 7:45
- Clock out
- 8:07 + 7:45 = 3:52 PM
Under federal law, hours over 40 in a workweek are overtime, paid at least 1.5 times the regular rate. The overtime calculator shows the pay.
Paid and unpaid breaks
Only unpaid breaks move your clock-out time. Under federal rules, rest breaks of about 5 to 20 minutes count as hours worked. A meal period, usually 30 minutes or more, is unpaid only if you are completely relieved from duty. Your employer's policy and your state's law decide the rest. Sources: 29 CFR 785.18 and 785.19.
